Teacher Training
If you've ever thought about teaching yoga or deepening your yoga practice, you've come to the right place. As a yoga teacher you'll bring peace, joy, and relaxation into people's lives.
Imagine this… you walk into a studio for your 6:00 pm class, people are rushing from home and work to get to your class. Some are happy, some are frazzled, and some are just plain stressed. You settle in, share some thoughts, and lead some breathing exercises. You begin leading class, hearts begin to beat stronger, bodies are moving in unison, you hear the breath of all your students rising and falling.
An hour or so later your students leave class feeling worked out, stretched out, and blissed out. They feel as if they can do anything in the world. You've done your "job", and what a great job it is.
Teaching at a yoga studio is just one option for certified yoga teachers. There are many other possibilities including gyms and heaths centers, nursing homes, day care centers, schools, businesses, senior centers, and more. You can also teach yoga in a private setting, which is expected to grow tremendously as the baby boomers continue to age.
"With nearly 15 million people practicing yoga in the US to the tune of an estimated $6 billion, yoga is a mainstream presence in America at the outset of the 21st century."

Going to the mat Feb 06, 2005
"These days, an estimated 16 million Americans have joined in, according to a survey published by Yoga Journal. You know it's gone mainstream when you can buy your yoga equipment at Target, pick up 'Yoga for Dummies' and 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Yoga With Kids' at your neighborhood bookstore and catch some yoga moves in the background on network television's hottest new show."

Yoga rooms: All the non-rage Jan 28, 2005

What our graduates are saying:
“I went into yoga teacher training at Barefoot Works expecting to learn to teach yoga, but what you find out is that by teaching yoga, you’re teaching people how to live. This teacher training has not only multiplied my knowledge of yoga, it has helped me understand myself, other people and the world better. I’m a much more patient and capable human being just from learning about yoga. It’s just amazing!” — Beth
“This training has definitely changed my life. I am so glad that I was able to be a part of it! Studying all that yoga has to offer has made me grow to be a happier, more positive, and more peaceful person. The Yoga Sutras really resonate with me and I have grown so much just by changing my perceptions. Additionally learning about other areas of yoga has helped me to become more awake with my own mind/body, as well as gaining more compassion for others.” — Jessica
“I came to yoga teacher training to enhance my physical activity. But what I gained from it was oh-so-much more than my outward appearance. The study of the eight limbs of Yoga and the Yoga Sutras reinforced values that I knew I should embrace more whole heartedly. The connection and energy of learning these things in a setting with other people on the same path is indescribable. My outlook on the world has changed for the better. It has truly enhanced my relationships with others as well as myself. Oh yeah, and I did learn how to teach yoga!” — Debbie
“The thing that I most valued was the sense of acceptance and non-judgment. This greatly helped me to open up, be more open to everyone, and empower me to speak my truth. I do feel the training has given me the tools I need to be a safe, effective and mindful yoga teacher and to practice on my own in a safer, more anatomically conscious way. My deepest thanks for that!” — Brian
“In this training I not only learned about yoga but about myself. The yoga philosophy called to me and gave me a home to release sorrow and pain inside me. This training gave me tools to find myself, my divine light and my higher power, all of which I had forgotten. Sharon you are a great teacher with true compassion for yoga that translates infinitely around you. Those of us that have had the privilege to be touched by your inner light will never forget what we have learned.” — Leah
“Yoga training strengthened my inner Goddess. When I first arrived I was groping around my path in the dark. I was a bundle of passions and desires. Yoga has been a fresh light, shining the way for a much more centered yogini. Those passions for peace and to use my gifts for the world have found an expression through yoga. Training introduced me to philosophies that I want to incorporate into my life, such as ahimsa or non-harming. Training also provided a compassionate community of individuals who are proof that you can live yoga off the mat. Even if I was to never teach a yoga class (highly unlikely since teaching yoga is a divine experience) I would take with me a richer and deeper yoga practice, a tool kit for how to handle life’s obstacles and a greater knowing in my divine self.” — Meredith
"I had been waiting for a yoga training to come to Lexington for a long time. When Barefoot Works offered the program I signed up immediately. The experience was wonderful. Sharon brings an openness and joy to her teaching. Her enthusiasm for the practice is contagious and she instilled in all of us a deeper appreciation for what yoga can be. I especially loved hearing the stories students would share about how they were positively affecting people close to them. Even for those who may not want to teach, it is an opportunity to belong to a special community of people who desire to learn more about yoga.” — Debra
