Teresa Thompson -
New to Barefoot Works Yoga teaching staff, Teresa Thompson began her study of yoga in 1979 in Southern California with the study of meditation and pranayama, approaching the practice of asanas (the postures) much later. In 2001 she began an Ashtanga yoga practice with Dean Holt, student of Sri Pattabhi Jois. She feels very fortunate to have met and practiced under the guidance of Sharath Rangaswamy when he toured the United Stated in June, 2003.
Teresa holds a Master of Arts degree and is a well-known artist/sculptor, much of her inspiration and imagery drawn from the strength and grace of yoga asanas. For the last 5 years she has worked as staff artist and mentor at Latitude Artist Community, where she also teaches 3 yoga classes. Additionally, she has been the yoga instructor at the Lexington Senior Center since October 2006. Perhaps her most outstanding contribution to our community has been the introduction of chair yoga classes for individuals with health and mobility issues, a service she will continue to provide. Favorite quote: “Asana practice brings the mind and body into harmony…. Your mind is always ahead of your body. The mind moves into the future, the body the past, but the self is in the present. The coordination between them that we learn in asana will enable us to turn the shape of our visions into the substance of our lives”.
